Here in the USA, the Do27 flies in the EXPERIMENTAL EXHIBITION category.
As such, we are afforded more leeway in maintenance than you probably are in Europe, flying in the NORMAL CLASS.
Martin would best comment if this would be allowed or not in Europe..
I had a set of NEW DO27 BRAKE DISKS, which I had GROOVED (DO NOT DRILL) and CRYOGENICLY TREATED
with a liquid Nitrogen batch for (I think) 24 hrs. The result was MUCH MUCH IMPROVED brake performance using
the same original pucks I could hold full power on my D27 without the brakes slipping. Loss of braking while Taxing
from OUT-GASSING of the pucks was also much improved.
The advantage of the Cryo -Treatment is that it greatly helps with reducing disk warping and it does alter
the metallic grain structure at the surface, which is reflected in less Puck wear.
You cannot Cryo_Treat USED DISKS, because they already have MICROCRACKS from heat, which could propagate all the way
through the disk.
